Your AI-Powered Solution for Effortless Meal Planning and Sustainable Living
Overview
ReciPal is an innovative mobile app designed for young students and busy professionals seeking a simple way to manage food inventory, grocery shopping, and meal inspiration. Powered by AI, ReciPal generates personalized recipes and smart grocery lists based on what you already have at home—maximizing resources and reducing food waste.
The problem and hard data
Food waste in our homes makes up about 39% of all food waste - about 42 million pounds of food wasted every year.
My goal with the app is to encourage people to use what they already have and limit food waste. I believe that my app could play a great deal in that.
Research
My research process consisted of extensive interviews with 4 college students and young professionals. I also conducted a survey with over 30 participants. The results gave me a lot of insight on the everyday pain points and needs of my target audience
Interview highlights
A lot of Ideas were born in the interviewing process and the interview subjects had very different opinions. The biggest thing I took from the interviewing progress is to limit push notifications and try to make the inventory management as easy and accessible as possible, use filters and question lists to adapt to the user and give recommendations tailored to them. Tailored to their budget, time, cooking skills and enthusiasm.
Meet the audience
How might we?
“How might we enable users to manage their grocery inventory as well as create recipes?”
Ideation
The ideation process began by mapping out three key user flows to define core interactions. From there, I developed wireframes to visualize structure and navigation, followed by multiple rounds of design refinements to enhance usability and clarity.
Final Screens
The final designs were shaped through iterative feedback, visual exploration, and usability testing. I focused on creating a clean, intuitive interface that aligned with the user flows while refining details to enhance both function and aesthetics.

Conclusion
My first experience with deep user research taught me how to listen, gather insights, and translate them into features that solve real problems.
